CADET PROGRAM

The Yuba City Police Department Cadet program is a non-paid, volunteer program designed for kids and young adults age 15 ½ to 22 years old that encourages and educates them with the skills and ideals necessary for a career in today’s law enforcement. Many former cadets have gone on to have successful careers at this department as well as other law enforcement agencies, local government, and serving their country through military service. Cadets must be full-time high school or college students, maintaining at least a 2.0 grade point average, and able to commit to 16 hours of service each month to the city.

The cadet program offers leadership development with a specified command structure within the cadet unit. Cadets work under the direct supervision of full-time officers. Cadets perform a variety of routine and progressively advanced tasks in a preparation for a career in law enforcement.

Some of the specific goals of the cadet program are to:

  • Provide role models through interaction between departmental personnel and the cadets

  • Give cadets hands-on experience in how law enforcement agencies operate

  • Educate the cadets on obstacles facing law enforcement today and to show these future officers how to deal with them effectively

  • Enable cadet officers to participate in community service projects and crime prevention programs.

  • Train cadets with skills to secure a job in law enforcement and to improve the quality of the entry law enforcement officer
